Back to the Priory
It was nearly eight months ago that I headed over to Aylesford Priory one October Friday afternoon.
I was bringing over my first ever pieces for the club’s pre-Christmas exhibition. Just five bowls, and I felt a bit of an imposter. I’d only been turning since January, and surrounded by some very impressive works, I did feel a bit self-conscious.
But after two weeks, all bar one bowl had sold. Yes, I’d probably been a bit timid with my prices, but to be honest, for my first attempt, better to have left having sold a few things!
This morning felt different: still a little nervous, but also really pleased with some of the items I’ve made. This time, too, everything was made for the exhibition. And this time I was far less timid on the pricing - though with one or two of these pieces, I’d happily bring them home with me after the show!

I was also able to put another idea into action this time: every piece now has a QR code sticker on the bottom, linking to its collection page here on the website. Here’s a concrete example of blending my day job and my hobby - let’s see what happens!
