Small Oak Bowl

A small bowl in oak, four and three-quarter inches across and two inches tall, turned from a reclaimed oak beam. The piece of timber was quite narrow, but rather than fight it I let it dictate the form - and it lent itself nicely to this cute little bowl.

Oak always rewards a clean cut with those distinctive silvery flecks, and even at this modest size the grain has plenty of character. There is something pleasing about a beam that once held up a building finding a second life as something to hold on a table.

Finished with acrylic lacquer to protect the surface and lift the warm honey tones of the oak.
